Since before summer 2019 we use this infrastructure to organise SSTM course and to do the communication.
Matrix protocol is comfortable and suits general needs for chat, group chat, phone & video calls, conference video calls, file exchange, …
Join
the Matrix – Services
Matrix service is a distributed service just same as e.g. eMail. So you can use a server of your choice or even run your own matrix server. Please read more: https://www.matrix.org
Matrix services do not belong to a single company, so nobody has the control and no single company gets the meta data (in doubt you can run your own server…). There are bridges to other protocols. More and more EU states use it.
Clients:
There are several clients on the market. It is your choice which
client your prefer. The most feature rich client currently is Element
(formerly: Riot.im). Others are e.g. SchildiChat, Chatty, Nheko …
Element is available for:
Desktop operating systems including
Linuxes
Windows
MAC
On the mobile phone:
iOS
in the apple store
Android in google play store or others
Independent of your operating system in your browser (!!)
To download element, see here: https://element.io/download
You then need to create an account on the server of your choice. A list of servers can be found e.g. here: https://servers.joinmatrix.org/
Most clients suggest the default server matrix.org. Better choose another one, in order to make it really decentralised.
Choose any user name and a safe password.
It is not necessary to give an email address or phone number – you can use it anonymously. (No password recovery then, of course). The matrix network works independent of the university, no need for an account/registration at university.
Your user address then looks like this: @username:servername.tld

We organised the unversity and the department in spaces and the different courses and semesters in subspaces. So please all join:

This is the public space of the faculty EIT, all parts are in (partly private) subspaces.
Please use this as entry point for all our infrastructure.
First Semester SSTM students please also join the batch room in EIT/SSTM
